Summer in a Shared Home: How to Keep Everyone Cool (Literally and Figuratively)

Hot weather makes shared living harder. AC fights, sweaty common areas, and summer guest overload — here's how to survive it together.

Summer is peak roommate conflict season. The AC bill skyrockets, everyone wants the living room fan, and friends are constantly visiting.

Start with a thermostat agreement. Set temperature ranges for day and night, and agree on fan usage. Track the increased utility costs with HomeCo so nobody gets stuck with a surprise bill.

Summer cleaning also needs an upgrade — more laundry, more dishes from BBQs, and bathrooms that need extra attention. Rotate summer cleaning duties so one person doesn't end up doing everything.

And about those summer guests: set a clear guest policy before the season starts. Overnight guests, pool access, and shared food all need boundaries.
